Common questions

How do I get my names? Type your English name, tap Choose File and pick a selfie, then tap Get some names. After a few seconds you'll see your first name with its pronunciation and meaning. Tap Next and Previous to see all three.

Can I get different names? Yes. Tap Regenerate Names to get three new ones for the same name and selfie. To try another photo, choose a new file first.

It says "That photo didn't work." Your browser couldn't open the file. Try a JPG or PNG. Some browsers can't open iPhone HEIC photos; taking a screenshot of the photo, or exporting it as a JPG, works.

It says "You're going a bit fast." To keep the free generator fair, each internet address can ask for 5 sets of names in a row, then one every 10 seconds, and 50 a day. Wait a minute and try again.

It says "Our name generator is busy right now." The AI service didn't answer in time. Wait a minute and try again.

Are the names real Chinese names? They're written by AI to fit your name and the mood of your photo, with the characters, pinyin and an English pronunciation. They can be imperfect, so check with a native Chinese speaker before using one somewhere important.

Is my photo stored? No. Only a small 512-pixel square crop is sent, it's used to write the names, and Kitchen Labs doesn't keep it. See the privacy policy for what our AI provider does with it.

Do I need an account? No. There are no accounts. Nothing is saved, so copy a name you like before closing the page.
