Common questions
I pressed Play and hear nothing. Check your device's volume, and on an iPhone the ring/silent switch (turn silent off). Browsers only allow sound after you tap something, so Flux never plays on its own: tap Play. If a lane says Silent, it's muted, or another lane is on solo (the headphones button).
How do I make a beat? Each row is an instrument and each pad is one sixteenth of a bar. Tap a pad to switch it on; lit pads play in a loop. Start from Presets if you'd like a head start.
How do the Bass, 808, Lead and Keys rows work? Pick a note from the row of note buttons, then tap pads to place it. Tap a pad that already has that note to clear it. Keys plays a whole chord built on the note. All the notes come from the beat's key, so they always fit together.
What do BPM, swing and key mean? BPM (beats per minute) is the speed: 80 feels relaxed, 140 urgent. Swing pushes every other sixteenth a little late for a laid-back feel. The key sets which notes the melodic rows use: major sounds bright, minor moody. On a phone they're under the settings button next to Play.
How does Ask the AI work? Describe a beat ("dreamy lo-fi with soft keys") and tap Make my beat. Then switch to Change this beat and ask for changes ("add an open hat", "slower"). Every answer can be undone with the Undo button. The AI writes one bar that loops.
The AI gave me a preset instead / says it's busy. When the AI can't answer, Make my beat loads the preset closest to your description, and Change it leaves your beat as it was. You can also have up to 6 AI requests a minute and 60 a day; after that, presets and the pads still work, and the AI is back the next day.
Where is my beat saved? Can I move it to another device? In this browser, automatically. To move it, open Save and tap Save beat file, then on the other device open Flux, tap Save, then Open a beat file. Files saved by the first version of Flux open too (their first bar is kept).
Can I get an audio file? Save → Record audio plays four loops and saves them as an audio file (WebM in Chrome, Edge and Firefox). Some browsers, including older Safari versions, can't record; the button says so.
I made a mistake. Tap Undo (the curved arrow next to Play). It steps back through your last 50 changes, including a new preset or AI beat.
