Hanoot Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2, 2026

Hanoot is made by Kitchen Labs. This policy explains what Hanoot collects, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: we collect only what's needed to plan and save your trips, we don't sell anything, and we don't track you.

What we collect

Your location, only while planning. When you plan a trip, Hanoot asks your phone for one location fix at neighborhood accuracy. Apple Maps uses it on your device to find nearby places. Your coordinates and a short list of those places are sent to our server so it can choose and order stops. We don't store your location. Hanoot never tracks your location in the background.

What you ask for. The words you type in Chat, or the filters you choose, are sent to our server to plan the trip. If you save a trip, the request summary is saved with it.

Saved trips. If you save a trip, we store it in your account: its name, overview, start time, how you're getting around, and each stop (the place's name, address, map position, times and tips).

Account details. If you create an account we store your email address (or the private relay address Apple gives us for Sign in with Apple), an account ID, the display name you choose, and your preferences (interests, budget, distance, how you get around).

Place photos. To show pictures, Hanoot looks places up on your device:

  • Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons receive the name and map position of each place in your trip, and the name of the area you're in with its position rounded to about a kilometer. They send back free-licensed photos, which Hanoot credits to their photographers. These requests carry no account details. The Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy covers them (https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Privacy_policy).
  • Apple Maps receives the same positions for Look Around street pictures and map previews.

Photos are kept in your phone's cache so they don't download again. Nothing about them is sent to our server.

Swap history (on your device). When you skip or choose places while swapping stops, Hanoot remembers the last 40 on your device and sends a short summary (like "cafés, 3 picks") with plan requests so suggestions fit you better. It is not stored on our server.

Usage counts. To keep the free service fair, we count how many plans each account (or anonymous guest session) makes per day. The count resets daily and holds no content.

Who processes it

  • Apple Maps (MapKit) finds places, travel times, street-level pictures and maps on your device, under Apple's privacy policy.
  • Wikimedia (Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons) supplies place photos, as described above.
  • Supabase hosts our database, sign-in and server functions.
  • A third-party AI service receives, through our server, your request (your words, filters or Surprise me), the names, kinds and addresses of the nearby places Apple Maps found, the name of your area (like "Pike Place, Seattle"), the time of day, your preferences and swap summary, so it can choose stops and write descriptions, names and tips. Your exact location is not sent to it, and we send no email address or account details. The service does not use this data to train its models.

We don't sell your data, show ads, or use tracking or analytics SDKs.

Guests

You can plan without an account. Hanoot then uses an anonymous guest session with no personal details, only so daily limits work. Guests can't save trips.

Your choices

  • Location: you can turn off location for Hanoot in Settings at any time. Planning needs it; everything else works without it.
  • Delete trips: swipe or long-press a trip in My Trips, or use the menu on a trip.
  • Delete your account: Profile → Delete account. This permanently removes your Hanoot profile, every saved trip and your usage counts. If you use the same login with another Kitchen Labs app, that app's data stays until you delete it there.
  • Questions or requests: reach us through our contact page.

Children

Hanoot is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
